American Airlines will begin non-stop jet service between Ithaca and Charlotte Douglas International Airport this December, according to a statement from Tompkins County. Initially, there will be one flight a week from Charlotte to Ithaca, and one flight a week from Ithaca to Charlotte.

Wegmans opened the WKids childcare space at its Ithaca store in 1997, and it’s closing this week after a steady decline in usage in recent years, the supermarket chain says. The service gave parents the option to shop without distraction while leaving kids in a safe place where they could stay busy and entertained. In recent years, families with kids have had other options, like the store’s pickup service that lets shoppers drive up and have groceries loaded right into the car, and the arrival in 2017 of Instacart grocery delivery. That has made the in-store childcare offering less important, and its hours have dwindled as it’s been used less.
