American Airlines will begin non-stop jet service between Ithaca and Charlotte Douglas International Airport this December, according to a statement from Tompkins County. Initially, there will be one flight a week from Charlotte to Ithaca, and one flight a week from Ithaca to Charlotte.

All the pets and people at Veterinary Care of Ithaca were OK after a Thursday afternoon fire, but the animal care practice says the business “will require some extensive repair work” before they can get back to normal. Without power, phone service, or access to their database, they don't even know which pets had appointments that need to be moved or rescheduled.

Ithaca’s Wegmans closing its WKids this weekend

Wegmans opened the WKids childcare space at its Ithaca store in 1997, and it’s closing this week after a steady decline in usage in recent years, the supermarket chain says. WKids at the Ithaca Wegmans is closing this weekend. 14850 Photo. “While many parents with small children love the convenience of the WKids Center, the number of customers using the service on a regular basis has steadily declined over the last few years,” company spokesperson Tracy Van Auker tells 14850. The service gave parents the option to shop without distraction while leaving kids in a safe place where they could stay busy and entertained. In recent years, families with kids have had other options, like the store’s pickup service that lets shoppers drive up and have groceries loaded right into the car, and the arrival in 2017 of Instacart grocery delivery. That has made the in-store childcare offering less important, and its hours have dwindled as it’s been used less. United Airlines is adding a third pair of flights each day between Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport starting next week, according to Tompkins County. The additional flight comes just six months after United started daily non-stop flights between Ithaca and the nation's capital.
